FALL FASHION WEEK OUTREACH~ NYC

Adam is 24 years old, is 6'3 and weighs 110lbs. If he allows himself to go above 110lbs he will lose his job working as a high fashion male model, and will owe his agency two hundred thousand dollars. Under the agency's instruction, Adam also receives botox injections in order to maintain his youthful appearance. Though his attitude is positive, his body is frail, and his heart aches quietly. Over a cup of coffee in a New York City Starbucks, Adam shared with a friend and I about the dangerous reality of being a professional model. He had just come off of the catwalk a few hours prior and was offering us both a world of perspective that we could have never imagined.


In September I am going to New York City for my second Fashion Week outreach with Models For Christ. (My first outreach was in February) Fashion Week is held twice a year and is a time for designers to showcase their latest collections. The event is very entertaining- Models grace the runway accompanied by loud music, while an overwhelming number of photographers, journalists, buyers, celebrities, and socialites sit in the stands excited to witness the upcoming fashion trends. Our vision for the week is to be examples of Christ to those working in the fashion industry. There will be people working with us from YWAM bases like Kona, and YWAM New York City; along with people from International House of Prayer; and then members of MFC will organize and facilitate the outreach. American Bible Society is graciously allowing us to use their facility, which is very near Lincoln Center, where Fashion Week is being held. There we will offer a place for food, rest and prayer for the professionals working in the show. Along with that, we will venture into the shows and make relationships that way and we plan to have a few people backstage dressing the models during the fashion shows.
